THE SEATTLE MARATHON!  Anyone running or walking it?  Can we all collectively groan at the hill near the Arboretum???!

My kids are running the Seattle Kids Marathon the day before the big race - they have already finished their 25 pre-race miles, are finishing their 13 books to be read, and are working on the 13 good deeds.  Any of you have kids running, too?

If you've never participated in an event, this is longstanding Seattle tradition that's sure to fire you up.  Put it on your calendar next year - it's a great way to burn off those extra Thanksgiving calories!

See you at the finish!

This month I'm inspired by people in our community.  October is BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH and we're honoring it by hosting free community walks in downtown Bothell.  Tues/Thurs 9:30-10:00.  Trainer led walks start/end at Alexa's Cafe (10115 Main Street, Bothell).  Today was a beautiful walk with some great gals - and coffee afterward was fun, too!  Join us, get some exercise, and raise your awareness about this important cause.

FACT:  Moderate intensity exercise on a regular basis (3X weekly) can decrease your risk of breast cancer by 30-40%.  That's huge!  You can decrease your risk of getting breast cancer with a few simple walks during the week.  Knowledge is power!

Yours in Health & Community,

The Team at Northshore Fitness

RUNNING!  There's nothing more cathartic than a good long run in the early morning!  Give me a trail, some cool air, and the sun coming up alongside a good friend and I can't think of a better way to start the day.  Running with a friend is a great way to multitask - you get your "ME" time, spend some quality time with some friend(s), and get your exercise all at the same time.

Registering for an event is a great way to get motivated to run/walk.  I like to register in advance - paying the money means I'll train for it and complete it.  Having a goal in the future keeps my exercise in the forefront for priorities and the feeliong of success having reached a goal is incomparable.

Seattle marathon is coming up!  They have shorter distance races the same day - and even a kids' marathon (my kids started running it in kindergarten - a full 26.2 miles!).  It can be a family event and ANYONE can walk a marathon (or half!).  Join me????

Happy trails!
